Development and code snippets / Hiderun
« on: February 13, 2017, 12:25:21 AM »
Hiderun hides the console of a started application and optionally waits for its termination.

I am not the author of hiderun, but we had the need to compile it for x64 for Gena and other projects. Posted here for reference and easy download.

hiderun.exe accepts the path to the program to hide as a commandline parameter, and /w optionally to wait for termination.

Download here (sourcecode included):   * hiderun.rar (19.12 kB - downloaded 43 times.)

Christmas time seems to have given us space to make various updates to Gena. Actually, numerous updates, because since the last ZIP update there have been over 60 updates to the server. :On_tredmil: Hence it really was time that  the ZIP packages be updated. They are now on the server.

Hi Everyone,

A quick messsage to inform that the Gena ZIP distribution packages have been updated today.

It's been a while since we updated the ZIP packages. I needed to test a few things on the server, and given that there's been 26 updates since the last package creation, I thought I would generate the new ZIP files.

Galapo.

Macro/Command Support / New function available: Call,DirCopy
« on: May 17, 2013, 01:14:14 PM »
Call,DirCopy,<FromDir>,<ToDir>,[OverWrite]

A directory copy function, accepting wildcards, that is compatible between the various WB versions (native WB DirCopy function has some differences between versions).

Available with Macro Library v.42rev21.

Regards,
Galapo.

11
Call,FileDeleteX,<file>
Call,DirDeleteX,<directory>

Unlike Call,FileDelete and Call,DirDelete, Call,FileDeleteX and Call,DirDeleteX accept wildcards, although they do not have to be used with wildcards.
Because they accept wildcards, multiple files/folders can be deleted at once.
The two functions are slightly slower than Call,FileDelete and Call,DirDelete.

Available with Macro Library v.42rev19.

Regards,
Galapo.

Gena News / Gena ZIP distributions updated 2013.02.19

Hi Everyone,

A quick messsage to inform that the Gena ZIP distribution packages have been updated today.

There have been close to 70 updates to the server since the last package update.

One important thing to note is the file 'WinBuilder077rc2 Starter.exe' at the base folder. Use this to start the project if you want to build with WinBuilder version 077rc2 (recommended for speed). This Starter (hopefully!) works around a WinBuilder.exe permissions bug in versions pre-080.

Gena News / Gena ZIP distributions updated
« on: January 01, 2013, 02:28:52 AM »
Hi ALL,

A notice to inform that the Gena ZIP distribution packages have been updated.

Lots of new and updated scripts have been added in recent weeks. A major advance is that the project no longer makes use of what has been known as the "Common API" (aka CAPI). We now have a more flexible and greatly enhanced replacement called "Macro Library". Many thanks to Lancelot to all his hard work on this!

Macro Library is now available for use in Gena, as well as Win7PE SE and the all-new Win8PE SE projects.

Enjoy, and Happy New Year.

Regards,
Galapo.

Other World / Holidays
« on: November 25, 2012, 09:07:29 PM »
Well, it's that time of year in my part of the world.

Just a quick post to say my family and I are going away for two weeks holiday from the weekend. Probably won't have an internet connection while away (and my wife would be very annoyed if I were to do too much computer stuff while on holidays :heh:).

So see you when we get back.  :surfing:

 :vacation:

Forum Support / deleted attachments
« on: November 23, 2011, 02:25:29 AM »
Hi Everyone,

There's been a terrible thing that has happened which I mentioned briefly here. Someone made a virus report to my webhost which I discovered was a false-positive and likely due to a few files being UPX compressed. The files were located in the attachments folder of the forum.

Before I was even notified that they would do so, a support person from my webhost deleted the entire content of the attachments folder. I have since been able to restore 2/3 of the files, but anything recent is lost.

But then things went from bad to worse. I have a Platinum account which includes daily backups. So I requested that the deleted files be restored from the previous day's backup. Then I was informed that daily backups wasn't enabled on my account. So even though I had been paying for daily backups, someone had disabled this on my account. I've been told that it has now been enabled again, but I've lost my confidence that this is so.

I am so sorry if you have lost your attachments. Anything attached between 1 October and 21 November was lost. I tried my best being given the run-around through support people, but to no avail. The files were deleted and the support person responsible made no backups.

Regards,
Galapo.

Gena News / Gena ZIP distributions updated
« on: June 12, 2011, 07:20:47 PM »
Hi Everyone,

Well, since Gena was released in mid-March, there have been 168 individual updates to the project. :icecream:

As such, it is high time the ZIP archives of the project were updated. This has now been done and can be found here: http://gena.CWCodes.net

A word of explanation about the changed ZIP distribution method. We are now distributing a very minimal option which we are calling 'Gena Appetizer'. It is intended for quick tests in an emulator. Our standard, main distribution we are calling 'Gena Meal'. This contains tweaks, drivers, and lots of apps targeted towards PC rescure situations. Both of these two mentioned packages can run stand-alone. The third distribution, however, does not run stand-alone and is designed to supplement the standard Gena Meal distribution. We are calling it 'Gena Sweets'. It contains many more applications which extend the functionality of the PE.

As always, thanks to all those who have contrinuted to this release, particuarly BlueLife (script fixes and utilities), JFX (Themes support), Nikzzzz (various script fixes and improvements), and acus (script fixes).

Regards,
Galapo and Lancelot.

Ps. Some screenshots of various themed language builds

Gena News / Gena public release
« on: March 14, 2011, 05:26:30 PM »
After months of development, Gena is now finally released to the general public.

Gena is an extremely flexible PE1 project which uses Explorer as shell, supports SATA/IDE drives (thanks to DriverPacks), USB devices, and many other features and tweaks. Gena builds from a Windows™ XP/2003 Install CD.

Features of Gena:

  • Gena uses saydin77 Builder Core (the best ever), which is the first opensource, first multi-architecture, first multi-language supporting core. Gena supports all multi-language sources (e.g., Arabic, Chinese, English, Greek, Japanese,  Hebrew, Turkish, etc.). Supported combinations of architecture and service packs are: XP-x86-SP3, XP-x86-SP2, 2k3-x86-SP2, 2k3-x86-SP1, XP/2k3-x64-SP2, XP/2k3-x64-SP0.
  • By default, Gena boots fine with 96 MB available RAM (128 MB advised). Of course, RAM requirement can be easily lowered with some techniques (but we do not believe today’s users have PC with lower than 96 MB available RAM). Depending on which script selections are made and how many apps are included, Gena builds at around ~60 MB with full mass storage driver support. Using WimBoot Gena builds at around ~30 MB, which makes for easy and quick booting (esp. PXE booting conditions).
  • Gena is fully opensource on PE1 building steps, including tweaks, with all credits referenced correctly.
  • Profile handling is now significantly improved, with all localised names able to be utilised.
  • More up-front and organised “Basic” level scripts which allow for easy setting of important build options.
  • Three Backup/Restore scripts have been added to substantially simplify rebuilding the project from a given state and/or stage.
  • Many scripts have been updated for fixes and file updates, as well as to decrease build time.
  • Boot time has been greatly improved in most cases due to the addition of new scripts which unmount floppy drives at early boot (thanks to Blue Life).
  • “Adjunct”-type scripts have been relocated for organisation.
  • “Component” scripts have undergone the following improvements:
    • assigned script level 3;
    • “Accessibility” scripts added (thank to JFX);
    • more “Accessories” scripts available; and
    • ActiveX support added (thanks to Zerojinny).
  • More useful scripts added to “Apps” (e.g., Flush; Opera scripts [thanks to saydin77]); “Driver” scripts updated (DPs-Build_MassStorageDrivers; DPs-MassStorageDriver MSST and BINS [thanks to olegpov]); and Theme support to be added soon (thanks to JFX).
  • Numerous Common API (CAPI) improvments, including:
    • CAPI significantly improved for speed and further cross-project variable compatibility.
    • CAPI available with Gena is now fully compatible with other PE2/3 CAPI projects.
    • new CAPI function for PE1 ‘Require,HighVersion’ to ease handling of files between 2003/XP sources with different MS updates. This finally solves  the source directory/service pack CAB/driver CAB dilemma. Hence Gena is the  first PE1 project which supports KB-updated sources along with SP-updated sources properly and very easily.
    • New CAPI function ‘Require,NoUnUPX’ in cases where un-upxing a file has unwanted results. Needs to be used in conjunction with the “Finish” script (if there’s one) that does the un-upxing (thanks to oriensol for helping with the batch command now used in Gena scripts BootDI and WimBoot).
  • Gena now explicitly supports multi-boot scenarios with provision made by way of “OtherOS” organisation à la PE2/3 (script level 7) in conjunction with BootsectorPE script.

Many, many thanks to ALL who have contributed so far!

We hope you like Gena as much as we do!

Gena homepage: http://galapo.net/gena

Gena can be obtained through the WinBuilder Download Center using the following address: galapo.net/gena.

Alternatively, a (generally up-to-date) archive of the Recommended build scripts can be obtained here.

A index of scripts may be found here.

Regards,

Galapo & Lancelot.
