... as much as I do :

- download Ribbon Disabler from here :

- boot to Win10PE SE and run that program

- save file explorerframe.dll from system32

- include that file in future builds ( I use Additional Files )

Since you will using the same ISO in future builds, this is a one time job.

I noticed that when I run Win10PE SE I can access/delete/rename any file on any partition.

I can't do that with regular Windows, lited windows, even Win7PE SE or GENA (I think).

Can I duplicate that 'feature' on a lited Windows 10 ?

I'm making a small wimboot Gena with only Ghost. Only plugins are :
 Removable devices combo
 DPs Mass Storage drivers

The PE was made on a AMD system where it runs fine. I boot from memory using grub4dos.

On a Intel (Haswell) system it runs OK. But if a USB flash drive is present when booting I get a BSOD 7F. Happens when booting from HDD or UFD.

What could be the reason?

Gena Support / Reducing size of system32\MUI folder.

Is there a way to reduce the size of the system32\MUI folder in GENA if the user only wants a English lang PE?
Just noticed it is 42MB. Trying to make a small GENA.

EDIT : If the PE is going to be used on relatively modern hardware, is it worth using the DPs Mass Storage drivers plugin?
EDIT1 : Yes DPs needed.

I wanted a easy way to enable/disable network connections.

SetIfaceState here :

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Warning : this program may not work for non-English Windows. It also has a few 'bugs'.

Is it better disable access to the internet when booting from a PE?

Is there any tool to indicate if your system is vulnerable to such malware ?

I normally use a WimBoot GENA ISO. I boot it from either a HDD or UFD using grub4dos. It works perfectly using the --mem (memory mapping) option in grub4dos.

However I recently tried to boot from a UFD on two of my friends computers (both have the same hardware Intel G2030 + Gigabyte B75M-D3H). In both cases I got the "cannot find BootDI.wim" error.

Then I noticed that in the GENA disk boot tutorial, in the file MENU.LST:
- for Gena_WIM.iso the --mem option is not present.
- But  for Gena.ISO only the --mem option is present.

Is there some reason for this? maybe --mem is not recommended for WimBoot GENAs or something?

I'm going to try and boot the WimBoot ISO on my friends computer next time without the --mem option.

Free UPX is an advanced graphical interface for the UPX (Ultimate Packer for eXecutables). It allows you to compress (and decompress) files produced according to Microsoft Portable Executable and COFF Specification (EXE, DLL, OCX, BPL, CPL and other). It offers easy access to all documented and undocumented UPX parameters without the need for command line usage.
Version 2.0 (26 May 2016)

We’re happy to announce today that we’re making available a new convenience rollup for Windows 7 SP1 that will help.  This convenience rollup package, available to download from, contains all the security and non-security fixes released since the release of Windows 7 SP1 that are suitable for general distribution, up through April 2016.  Install this one update, and then you only need new updates released after April 2016.

And since this update can be injected into Windows 7 SP1 media, it’s fully supported to mount a Windows 7 SP1 image (WIM file), then inject this update into it.  See for the details of how to do this.
Also today we are announcing that non-security updates for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 (as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2) will be available as a monthly rollup (fixes rolled up together into a single update).  Each month, we will release a single update containing all of the non-security fixes for that month.  We are making this change – shifting to rollup updates, to improve the reliability and quality of our updates.

These fixes will be available through Windows Update, WSUS, and SCCM as well as the Microsoft Update catalog.  We hope this monthly rollup update simplifies your process of keeping Windows 7, and 8.1 up-to-date.

I will manually download & install the KB3153199 security fix on my Win7 machines to resolve the very long WU scan problem.

Worked for me.

How can I refresh a Gena desktop ( same as right-clicking the desktop and selecting Refresh ) from a cmd/bat file ?

Gena adds a lot of utils/tools to system32, can any of them do that ? I prefer not to add another program/script if I can avoid it.

I've beem using Path Copy Copy ( for some time. I should have thought of this earlier.

Very often I need just the file name without the extension, this can be done using "Custom Commands" in Path Copy Copy.

e.g. when you want to rename the .srt file to match the name of the video file.

Attached screen shot and exported file from Path Copy Copy.

Other World / Surprise ! Opera 12 updated to 12.18 -thumbs up-
« on: February 15, 2016, 08:41:17 PM »
I was a big fan of the original ( the true ) Opera. Version 12 was not updated since April 2014. Some websites would not display with 12.17 so I started using Firefox.

If 12.18 works with all sites, I going right back to Opera.

Mobile world / Google offering a 2GB bump in Drive storage ...
« on: February 08, 2016, 09:25:21 PM »

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year, but for those unaware, tomorrow is Safer Internet Day. Joined by online companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter, it’s the one day out of the year where safer, more responsible use of the internet is promoted for young people or those not well versed in the internet and its many dangers. Once again, we have Google kicking things off by offering up a 2GB bump in Google Drive storage (like they did last year), simply for reviewing your Google account security settings.

It’s so easy, just click hop on over to Google’s Security Checkup page and after giving your account the once over (and addressing any concerns), you’ll be given a permanent 2GB bump to your Google Drive storage. Because Drive storage is shared with other Google services like Photos or Gmail, this could come in handy even if you rarely use Drive. It only takes a few seconds. Just hit up the link below to get started.

The option to set resolution in the Main script seems to work OK.

After that I'm not able to change the resolution. Tried multires, set max resolution and even display settings in Win10PESE. None worked.

So far I used the PE only on my PC. I tried it on another PC today and noticed the problem,

I decided to rebuild my Win7PESE_x86.ISO after a long time. I updated the scripts I use.
I boot the ISO from grub4dos.

The PE boots OK, everything works fine, except when I right click the Desktop or in Windows Explorer I get a error :
(see pics)

I unchecked the VC++ script and still get the same error.

AutoSizer here :

Plugin v1:
md5 : 0D75FD0586EE911600B5B4F5378D0CB0

Note - most probably you will have to re-configure AutoSizer to your liking. The plugin allows you to provide a custom targets.dat file.
Warning, AutoSizer can be a bit irritating, eg. you work in Notepad and resize the Notepad window, you close Notepad, the next time you open Notepad it will be resized by AutoSizer.

The default configuration in the plugin assumes a monitor of at least 1400x800 resolution. You can re-configure, of course.
Tested with Win10PE_SE.

With PEs, many windows have pre-defined sizes, eg, windows explorer. Every time I used a PE I would have to start by resizing the explorer window.

I just came across AutoSizer here :

It works with PEs. I tried it with Win10PE SE. Benefits :

- windows explorer as mentioned above.
- disk management which always opens a small window can be permanently resized.
- programs like PartitionGuru/FastCopy which don't store window size/position can be opened to a convinient size.

I'll try and make a plugin this weekend if I have the time.

I contacted the developer to make a stealth-portable version. Lets see if he responds.

I use Notepad++ for editing code. I could not figure out how to add some commonly used operations (like delete to end-of-line) to the context menu of Notepad++.

I had some free time today and figured it out (I think ;-)

Add this to the <Macros> section in shortcuts.xml
Code: [Select]
        <Macro name="DelLineLeft" Ctrl="no" Alt="no" Shift="no" Key="0">
            <Action type="0" message="2395" wParam="0" lParam="0" sParam="" />
        <Macro name="DelLineRight" Ctrl="no" Alt="no" Shift="no" Key="0">
            <Action type="0" message="2396" wParam="0" lParam="0" sParam="" />
        <Macro name="DelLine" Ctrl="no" Alt="no" Shift="no" Key="0">
            <Action type="0" message="2395" wParam="0" lParam="0" sParam="" />
            <Action type="0" message="2396" wParam="0" lParam="0" sParam="" />
        <Macro name="DelWordLeft" Ctrl="no" Alt="no" Shift="no" Key="0">
            <Action type="0" message="2335" wParam="0" lParam="0" sParam="" />
        <Macro name="DelWordRightEnd" Ctrl="no" Alt="no" Shift="no" Key="0">
            <Action type="0" message="2518" wParam="0" lParam="0" sParam="" />
        <Macro name="WordLeftExtend" Ctrl="no" Alt="no" Shift="no" Key="0">
            <Action type="0" message="2309" wParam="0" lParam="0" sParam="" />
        <Macro name="WordRightEndExtend" Ctrl="no" Alt="no" Shift="no" Key="0">
            <Action type="0" message="2442" wParam="0" lParam="0" sParam="" />

and add this to contextMenu.xml
Code: [Select]
<Item MenuEntryName="Macro" MenuItemName="DelLineLeft" ItemNameAs="Delete to start of line"/>
<Item MenuEntryName="Macro" MenuItemName="DelLineRight" ItemNameAs="Delete to end of line"/>
<Item MenuEntryName="Macro" MenuItemName="DelLine" ItemNameAs="Delete line"/>
<Item id="0"/>
<Item MenuEntryName="Macro" MenuItemName="DelWordLeft" ItemNameAs="Delete word to left"/>
<Item MenuEntryName="Macro" MenuItemName="DelWordRightEnd" ItemNameAs="Delete word to right"/>
<Item id="0"/>
<Item MenuEntryName="Macro" MenuItemName="WordLeftExtend" ItemNameAs="Select word on left"/>
<Item MenuEntryName="Macro" MenuItemName="WordRightEndExtend" ItemNameAs="Select word on right"/>
<Item id="0"/>
<Item MenuEntryName="Edit"  MenuItemName="Duplicate Current Line"/>
<Item id="0"/>

to get this : ila_rendered

EDIT : careful, the latest version of Notepad++ does not seem to save new user created macros.
