Other World / Welcome back, (What happened?)
« on: February 20, 2016, 12:38:57 AM »
Good to see "we" are back... ( was down yesterday)

What happened?

Now that I have some spare time, I've always wanted to try some tests on Win7PESE to see what I can change to fix some timing issues I have. I use Win7PESE, Win8PESE and Win10PESE mostly (8.1SE mostly for testing), all of these with the same "system" to mount my portablestuff.iso at boot (osfmount), then do some font install, launch bginfo and a few more things (launched from autohotkey's initial script).

Win7PESE is the only one from this list that sometimes can't get all this done in time... It's not a very big problem, sometimes a "reload this script" helps on the Autohotkey icon, sometimes a reboot is needed, then everything is usually fine.
This makes me thing that it's just a matter of a few milliseconds here are there. But I don't know where to look!

Any ideas would be welcomed!!

So I did some cleanup up on all the new 10PESE stuff, saved my modified project folders, did some testing on the new Acronis build 6027, etc. (this is actually what I call fun...) With all the great new 10PESE additions, it looks like it can replace my beloved Win8PESE soon! (I lke Win8PESE, because it never causes any timing problems at startup, like I sometimes have with Win7PESE).

So I booted Win10PESE to test the new Acronis. I usually have 3 primary partitions on my test laptops (BIOS, no UEFI stuff). This way, I can test 3 separate operating systems on one PC (using grub4dos). I always start diskmanagement (with a hotkey, of course), remove one of the three primary partitions, create a new one, call it C:\, make it active, etc. etc. (Install OS, make backup, restore, etc.)

But something's wrong. Removing the partition works, but when I want to create a new one, I get this error (translated back from Dutch):
- The operation didn't finish because the file system is not compatible.
After this, the partition is of type "RAW" (when I asked for NTFS). I can't format it afterward as NTFS either. The only thing that helps is booting with a different PESE (good thing I keep them all handy).

Any ideas? (Remember, this works fine on 7PESE/ 8PESE/ 8.1SE).
I hope it's just a silly oversight on my part...

Pretty fast service, thanks!!
I didn't notice the new zip (including the Shell folder) right away, because
still says "205.17 mb", even when the actual new zip is now 215 mb again (as it should be).
But that's only a cosmetic thing, maybe this is even updated automatically?

EDIT: Filesize of the zip is fixed now as well

Win10PE SE HomePage / Win10PE SE Thank you/ Appreciation thread
« on: November 27, 2015, 06:17:54 AM »
So we already had a "8.1SE/ General -Thank You-" thread, but I guess my current "Thank You" is for the new 20151126 Win10PESE release, so here goes....

A huge THANKS to ALL the developers here at TheOven for making the new release possible.

I'm eager to see how the "Notfall CD" article in the new 2015-26 issue of German "C't Magazin" will turn out (due tomorrow), I already asked a subscriber to scan the article for me (us).

Thanks to both of you for the new developments.
I have tried a standard, updated build, which seems to build OK, but I noticed there is no ISO created. I normally don't need the ISO, so I haven't researched that issue yet, I will wait what others have found (the ISO is part of the standard build, right? Even after manually selecting "create new ISO", it doesn't seem to be there in the default folder). I will test this further...

I normally use "write to usb device", this one seems to work OK, but I'm getting a lot of "missing davhlpr.dll" errors on 32bit programs.
And as ChrisR said, there seem to be some delays after startup...

Thanks for your work!

C't issue 25 is out tomorrow, issue 26 will be out in 2 weeks, they're already listing what will be in the next issue...

I'm sure the same people will react with the same type of negativity, but I still think it's pretty cool that this well-respected magazine is mentioning PE/SE once again (at least, I think that's what they will be using, not 100% sure yet...)

Talk about other things ... / vDos (run DOS programs), PE friendly!
« on: October 09, 2015, 06:45:16 AM »
If anybody's ever looking for something like this:
vDos is nice little tool to run DOS programs. It's based on DOSbox.

The new version doesn't need any external VC runtimes anymore, and seems to work nicely in PE.
You can download the installer and run it, or you can extract the files with InnoUnp. For PE you only need vDos.exe and 4dos.hlp. This new version has 4Dos built in!
Again, 99% of you probably don't need this, but it's nice to know it's around... Personally, I sometimes use DOS HTMStrip, and some ancient Clipper-made stuff (yes, Clipper runs fine, including Semware editor/ "Quick editor", Norton guides, etc.).

Win10PE SE HomePage / Win10PESE WoW64 Support

ChrisR, you should have kept us in suspense a little bit longer :-) :doh7:

Only kidding of course, this is just AMAZING, to see how (after less than a day) you have managed to whip up a script for WOW64 on Win10PESE.

I just got home from work, booted my spare builder PC, added 5-Wow64.script, made a new build, replaced boot.wim on my Win10PESE usb, and.... IT WORKS!!!

You're making it almost TOO easy for us

As you know, I have most of my portable aps in an iso, so I could easily do some quick tests, and most of the 32bit stuff works, this includes (old) ACDSee, Paintshop, Semware Editor (this is probably the single program I would miss most in 64bit-only PE!), UltraISO, miniWordExcel97, SumatraPDF32, FSViewer, FSResizer, etc.

XYPlorer doesn't work, though, but I'm sure I can figure out what's going on there. It throws this error:
"Main: 481 - Invalid picture". Googling this error points to a Visual Basic error (XYPlorer is written in VB). Like I said, I'll look into that one later...

For now, I'm just so impressed with how unexpected and fast we were able to add WOW64, thank you ChrisR, and of course I would like to thank the original developer as well, I just don't know how we could reach him...

THANK YOU!!!! :happy_dance:

Win8.1 SE HomePage / 20150912 version - No taskbar?
« on: September 12, 2015, 06:14:38 AM »
After noting the MMC script issue in the "Thank You" thread, I made a working new build, but now I noticed the taskbar doesn't appear automatically (like it did in the previous build). Pressing Win+T works (like in the first 8.1SE builds).

I just finished a completely standard build, and here I don't have the taskbar either.
I surely hope changing the software hives (for the MMC issue) hasn't caused this?

Have any of you made the latest 8.1SE build, do you notice the missing taskbar?

OK, I'm probably going to get shot for this, but I really can't remember why in 8.1SE (64bit PE build, hostOS=W7) disk management is stuck at "Loading Disk Configuration Info".
With Win8PESE, I always use ctrl-sh-0 to bring up disk management (prior to using WinNTSetup). This week, I was making new install.wim files for w7 and w8, and deciced to do this on three systems at the same time. One using Win8PESE, the other Win8.1SE (I was testing if 8.1SE would be my new "standard" toy, to replace Win8PESE).
So this diskmanagement delay/ freeze was the only thing that was a deal breaker. Again, it must be my own fault (as usual), but can somebody please remind my what's going on? Thanks!

Win8PE SE HomePage / Themes plugin not in 2015-02-20 project?
« on: February 20, 2015, 12:42:56 AM »
Hi ChrisR,
Thanks for the updated project files. I'm doing my edits and mods to the new files, and noticed there's no "Tweaks\Theme.script". Is this "by design", or did you forget it? According to my notes, I need it in 8PESE, because otherwise the start button has no icon, but just a black picture instead.
Of course, I can replace my previous Tweaks.script, but I just wanted to ask ask quickly as possible.
Thanks again for all your hard work!!!

Gena Support / Lancelot, please help me get Gena going again
« on: December 27, 2014, 03:22:42 PM »
Lancelot, I've downloaded Gena Appetizer again, trying to make a fully basic build. Got my xpsp3 source, starting the build.
Getting this error:
Exec - Failed to find section [Verify] in file: [%BaseDir%\Projects\Gena\Utils\!ScriptManager.script]

Can you please help me? Very short and basic answers are enough, I only need a "jump start", I have most of my "build notes" from last year, so once I get it going again, there shouldn't be much problems.

I'm looking at the Utils\ folder, but can't even find "!Scriptmanager" there. Not on the Gena server, either. Help!?
