Haha, ChrisR made the impossible possible!
(=JFX using "working great" and "15063" in the same sentence!)

Seriously, just wanted to add another huge THANKS for the new updated project files...

This is incredible news....

This was my reaction (sorry, don't know how to embed):

No, you don't do this from a running PE, all the steps must be done "offline" into your PE file (boot.wim). I guess that's another thing for you to learn? (There's another few interesting things there).
You can't do it in a running PE, because the system needs to "reset" after the changes, and there's no way to "reset" a PE...

If you don't want to bother making a script for a builder, you *could* do it by using a quick solution like using the Wimlib "inject" method, but that's a whole 'nother can of worns :-)

Anyway, interesting to see that solution, JFX, thank you!!

To be honest, I never thought you would  make it this for...

Size difference: The target folder has uncompressed files, the iso has compressed files (specifically boot.wim).

DVD? Better go for USB instead, specially when trying/ testing/ running multiple tests.

Once again, congrats on the successful build...

I guess we should worry about DriveImage later. I do like disk imaging software in PE, but to be honest, I never cared for DriveImage Why not try Drive Snapshot (runs straight from usb, no settings or build options needed), Terabyte Image for Windows, Active Disk Image (free!), Macrium 6 (free), or Acronis?

jeline, fair enough, using 1703 was a mistake, but you're on the right track now.
See this thread:
http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=2089.0

If you're confused by the versions, check here:
http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=2089.0

Version 1703 is build 15063 (not supported)
Version 1607 is build 14393 (supported)

Whiggs is sure 1607 won't work either, but the fact that he didn't manage to make a successful build doesn't mean it's not supported. I have several test build of Win10PESE on my usb, all based on 1607. Whiggs, if you have any problems, please use a separate thread.

jeline, as I've said before: take some time to read the FAQ/info threads here on the forum, getting your first build to run is always tough, try a completely "standard" build first, once you got that working, then try "messing around" with other settings etc.

This is a joke, right?

I told you in your first thread to download version 1607, not 1703.

If you don't read the answers to your questions, I don't think you'll be very successful in building anything at all.

Have a nice day.

First get a decent source for your PE, go to:
https://tb.rg-adguard.net/index.php
(this will get you 100% original Microsoft files, with verifiable hash checksums!)

Select this from the dropdown menus:
(1) "Windows - Final"
(2) "Windows 10, Version 1607 - Redstone 1 [Jul 2016] (build 14393.0)"
(3) "Windows 10 Pro + Home"
(4) Select your language (English preferred)
(5) Select x64 or x32

Then click download, and while downloading, please read up on the FAQ and Help topics on this forum!!

I'm using a x86 ISO I downloaded on the 19th using the media creator. (10.0.15063.0) en-US.

15063 is not supported.
"Critical Process Died".

Well, the Win10PESE project itself also Died.

Talk about other things ... / New: NirSoft RegistryChangesView
« on: July 12, 2017, 07:19:30 AM »
I'm sure lots of you know the great utility collections by NirSoft (Nir Sofer), so I wanted to share the news of his latest RegistryChangesView tool (v1.00). It works like the well-known RegShot, so again I think a lot of you know what I'm talking about. From the readme:

RegistryChangesView is a tool for Windows that allows you to take a snapshot of Windows Registry and later compare it with another Registry snapshots, with the current Registry or with Registry files stored in a shadow copy created by Windows. When comparing 2 Registry snapshots, you can see the exact changes made in the Registry between the 2 snapshots, and optionally export the Registry changes into a standard .reg file of RegEdit.

It's fully "portable" as well, so no need to install unwanted extras, just extract (only 150kb) and run!

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/registry_changes_view.html

There's a native 64bit version as well!!, works fine in 64bit PE without WOW64 (just make sure you don't select non-existent hives)

What?!  Why?

Who? Where? When?

Might be of interest to some:
Active@ Disk Image Free, new version 8.0.3 20170513

http://www.disk-image.com/downloads/DiskImageFreeSetup.exe

Improved slow RAW image creation for non-Windows partitions
Task scheduling uses Task Scheduler API 2.0 on Vista+
Added support for Microsoft Storage Spaces
Added network credentials support for scheduled tasks
Improved driver installation for Virtual Disk
Minor improvements and bug fixes
New security includes product activations

Disk Image is quite "PE-friendly", you can use "innounp - the Inno Setup Unpacker" to extract the files directly from the setup file:

Acronis 2018 beta program has started.

https://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/computer-backup/beta/#registration

I have not tested the full setup yet, but I was happy to see the PE stuff is still basically the same as previous versions. If you join the beta program and receive a test serial, this serial can still be converted for PE use (last year ViperZx discovered how to do that). This beta serial usually also works for the "real" versions later on (PE only)...

I did this quick test (PE ONLY!!) and everything seems to work just fine for this build (2018 beta 9117):
- Sign up for the beta - Download the 462mb exe, manual and release notes - Save the serial - Use 7zip to extract the msi, then to extract the "_35_*" file from it (this used to be "_33_*" in previous versions) - Rename that file to "pe.zip" - Extract the usual PE files from pe.zip - Boot with PE - Run a special "Portable Acronis" launcher that starts the services, converts the serial and starts TrueImage.exe (total of files needed in PE: 44mb for x86, 52mb for x64)

Waiting for an update.

Don't hold your breath.
10PESE is on hold for now...

14
Thanks, are you the developer?

Looking good, quick and small! Is there any more info on this you can share? (Docs, sites, examples, etc?)
[EDIT: Source code ?!]

[EDIT: You added two more posts while I was typing this, so more info already!]

15063.0 is pretty much a disaster.

Can you please share with us what the biggest problems are?

Talk about other things ... / Re: New ADK previews - seriously flawed?
« on: February 28, 2017, 10:05:05 PM »
Please hold for more testing...
This morning I saw there was yet another preview (Windows preview 15046, not full ADK), this just a few days after 15042 (and the 15042 ADK preview). I did a quick test and the error finally seems to be fixed (maybe they read my post).

If it wouldn't have been this close to "RTM", I wouldn't have said anything, but it think it's pretty lame that a basic error like this show up in versions so close to RTM. Please not this error was in *all* the previews (including adk previews since post-14393...

Thanks for listening anyways, I will let you know later today if it's really fixed.

EDIT: YES, it seems to be fixed. So it was a coincidence that my patience ran out 1 day before they finally decided to do something about it. About time!!!

New ADK preview today. Direct iso link here:

https://mdl-tb.ct8.pl/getDirect.php?fileName=Windows_InsiderPreview_ADK_en-us_15042.iso

PE seems to be seriously "broken" since 14393. Will someone please tell me I'm not crazy and try installing the ADK preview (tools + PE is enough), start the ADK prompt, then make the PE folder:

copype amd64 d:\adk15042-pe-x64

then write this to usb, for example drive letter g:

makewinpemedia /ufd d:\adk15042-pe-x64 g:

Boot the usb, then type "notepad" and try to load a file. It doesn't work!!! (Error: "Not implemented").

A normal file selection dialog like this doesn't seem to work anymore. What's going on here!?
It's like this for every normal program, PE is completely unusable this way!

Everything is here (older stuff removed)
