Hi all,

Provider close public access with informing
"that malware was detected on a directory."

Galapo removed content and we are back  :great:

I agree, we will hopefully have a fallback plan in some future  :great:

Only fallback plan I could think of is to "borrow" JFX's WinNTSetup forum for a few posts, luckily ChrisR caught up on that and told us a solution was imminent for TheOven.org.

Maybe Galapo can give us some hints on what the exact problem was, so we can try to prevent it in future.

Very strange (but not uncommon) of the provider to make such a dramatic and sudden issue of this. If they knew anything about the nature of this forum, they could have just asked...

Oh well, good to see we're back...

not uncommon, besides a small shake is always good to prepare for the big ones.
well we always take lessons and after adjustments never draw circles of same troubles.
time (some months) required, life is busy....   :turtle:

It was like the Morning Newspaper was eaten by the dog.. Coffee and nothing to read...
Being from the days of FTA, nothing strange about it..
But it did give me time to write a Deployment Batch File, that allows me to repartition, format and apply prepared windows 8.1 and 10 images..
In a dual boot scenario..

Welcome back..

Hello Galapo,

congratulations to the excellent and fast  forum restore. Not many people are able to fix a infestation in this short time. No forum is secure in time. We all can be affected.

Very well done!

a few tip in addition:

  • control whether new admins or supermods were born in ACP
  • change Database PW
  • change .htaccess PW if available
  • change ACP PW
  • change admin and mods (S)ftp- PW
  • moderators should be check the local PC, maybe they are infected

So long and best regards  ....  :air_fan:

Thanks everybody - good to be back!! :great:

A bit of information on the attack. There was no attack or problem with the forum as such. It was another website running WordPress that was attacked and compromised. The issue was that my hosting provider shutdown all access to the server until the malware from the WordPress site was cleaned.

Here is some information: http://tacit.livejournal.com/609713.html

Anyway, all good now.

Regards,
Galapo.

I'm glad the site is back. I decided to upgrade from Win7PESE to Win10PESE, downloaded the project, started compiling and had some issues. Then I go back to check the site the following day and it's gone  :ranting2: While trying to find out what happened, I remembered the 911cd forum for Bart PE, and decided to ask there. No one there knew, and site came back after a few days :w00t:.

I think that forum could be a good alternative to notify users in case of future crashes.

No it is not, we had made that mistake years ago.

We already have fallback to backup site content,
and we will have fallback for such case (1st time since forum online) in some future when we have some big free time.

Time, and Life :turtle:
