Guys,
I am looking to create a method to manually build a 64bit WinPE 5.0 Disk (Windows 10 PE).  The reason for this is where I work at, I cannot use one build by a 3rd party build tool.  I also have to provide support and documentation for how I built it and be able to update it as needed.
I can, however, use one built using a 'Build Tool' as a reference to 'pull apart'.  I went ahead and downloaded win10se and have successfully built an image.  I have extracted the files and have been working on getting it going by using the same techniques and methods that I used successfully for the Windows 7 PE disk that I created a few years ago for my work.

I started out by building the base image with all of the necessary ADK plugins with the Windows 10 ADK (following instructions from MS site.).  I have tried to put what is necessary for explorer shell back into the build and followed the same general process that I used to get explorer to work under windows 7.

Basically, I got it to where I can get to the dos shell and then started to add all of the files that I think are necessary for explorer to work properly back into the image/build.  I have also modified the software registry hive.  (too many changes needed to list here but it looks very similar to the software hive from the CD .. with a few modifications.. example:  remove runas interactive user keys from classes root, add all of the explorer and IE keys from the software hive, etc...)

short version: when I start adding in the system32 and WOW64 files needed & try to boot the wim file, I get stuck on a black screen with the mouse pointer...  Before I added the extra files, I was at least able to get to the dos prompt and run a few command line tools to try to figure out what I need to do....

Anyone else attempting to do the same thing and get the black screen with mouse problem?  if so, were you able to get past it?  I don't want to post the list of files and such unless needed, but I have confirmed that it happens when I extract and add some of the missing system32 files to the build.  (btw- I pulled the list of files needed from a successful win10se WIM file to give me something to go on).  I have not modified the list of services nor have I changed the product options reg key yet... basically, before I do that & set explorer as the shell, I want to get explorer process working and to be able to 'browse' the file system with the explorer shell.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

Seems to me, I have seen this exact comment before...
Since you now have builder - deselect all checkboxes - run the builder...
you need all those files in your Company built PE...

yes
I stopped counting.
for whoever can use google to find this forum, also can find relevant topics
if whoever can not, better not use PE at all.....

some tags:
"My company is very strict"
"I can not use 3rd party build tool."
"For educational purpose"
In addition
"I can build ADK (following instructions from MS site.)"

blablabla

however,
unknown company permits asking questions on 3rd party forums rather than 1st party MS forums !!!!  :whistling:
and unknown company is fine with "BottomBullet PE" which goes out of official tool MS provides  :whistling:

I wonder the name of the company ???

BottomBullet, where do you work at ?

What I did was to use the Win10SE project Winbuilder utility to create a disc and the verified that it worked.  I then used 7zip to extract the files from the wim file into a  directory.  I then used dos commands to generate a file list of all of the files that were in the wim file.
Next, I extracted the Pro version of windows 10 install files from the install.wim file to a folder.    I then generated a batch file  to copy all of the files that were in the list of files used by the win10se build from the extracted install.wim files to a new folder.  I then mounted the image created with the ADK and copied the files, telling windows not to replace existing.

in essence, short of the custom files (autorun/autoit related files) and the MS VC runtime files that were not in the Win10Pro dvd install.wim file, all of the files are there.  I then get a black screen with white arrow.

I have some searching around and haven't found a whole lot regarding this issue.

and to answer the your question, does it matter who I work for?  I am asking for assistance, not critique of my employment.  You would also be surprised about how many corporate entities will not allow unapproved software on their networks, nor allow using third party 'build' tools..

Thanks

Sure you can not, why surprised, you are reporting a trouble with "BottomBullet PE" which is created in an unknown way replicating Win10PESE ...

Since nobody can build "BottomBullet PE", nobody can support.

yet still unknown company.

again, if unknown company that strict ,
an unapproved "BottomBullet PE" ! which is out of instructions by MS would not be accepted,
whatever build tool used it is out of approval of such logic, well such logic not exists anyway...
(exception: very big software corparations like ms, intel, apple, oracle... well they do not need such "BottomBullet PE" anyway, if they need they are talent enough to use ms pe instructions.. )

projects of TheOven.org forum approved by many companies, you would also be surprised how many corporate entities use SE projects.

anyway, good luck with your unapproved "BottomBullet PE" and yet another secret company.

you should already understand you are not the first who failed replicating and reporting for troubles of replica, it is quite boring and rude posting around.
It is like shamelessly asking Leonardo da Vinci how to make Mona Lisa !!!!!!

Leonardo da Vinci would reply: if you like to make a replica, it is your concern not mine

well, compared to Mona Lisa duplicating any project is quite easy for a serious programmer who have time since all plugins are open source...

Anyway, good luck with your replica.

1:  I am asking about a specific problem, not for directions for how to do everything.
2:  I am trying to build this as a custom in-house recovery tool with directions / documentation so I can get it approved for a recovery tool by our internal information assurance division.  The tool will be used ONLY for internal use.
3:  I am not going to respond to any more non-constructive / flame like comments

If anyone has any ideas of things to check that might cause this behavior, I would appreciate the feed back.  Otherwise, follow the golden rule and if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.

Shamless, rude, and stubborn with all these  :w00t:

your specific problem is about your unknown, unapproved "BottomBullet PE" which is somehow a replica of Win10PESE !!

here a golden rule to you:
when you make a replica, do not ask authors where you might fail, with all being shameless and rude.
well it was written before, you might miss reading.

It is like shamelessly asking Leonardo da Vinci how to make Mona Lisa !!!!!!

Leonardo da Vinci would reply: if you like to make a replica, it is your concern not mine

more clearly, Win10PESE and naturally your replica "BottomBullet PE" is out of instructions by MS, which would not be accepted by conditions you wrote.

Well Something new:
Unknown Company have a division called internal information assurance division.     wow

With this new information, more clearly:
Unknown Company's internal information assurance division, having such long name sounds a serious division    ,
can not accept your replica "BottomBullet PE" which is out of MS instructions but following Win10PESE

If they accept, than they would also accept Win10PESE
Where people know what they do, and improve projects with public support following constructive support.

3:  I am not going to respond to any more non-constructive / flame like comments
all posts constructive to guide you, you like to ignore with being shameless and rude, and stubborn.
We already name such thing: "ignore and post by bending logic" = "post games"

*******************
Well do not post with ignorance and bend logic again, you are on wrong forum for such thing, have fun on other forums.
Read forum rules and FAQ pages, IF you can.
   http://theoven.org/index.php?action=rules
   http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=834.0
Well any serious developer who work on a company would read Forum Rules anyway.... ! Serious people do their homework.
(better you do, you are not the first post gamer, you will be surprised many people out there also as clever as you  or do they )
*******************

As written before, projects here are approved, public and reproducible, and being developed since 2010 on http://theoven.org forum,
being stable and flexible with feedback since than...

They are open source and there are already
1* known working replica (already a project topic here),
1 known outdated wow64 implementation (ended for a long while),
1* known inspired from Win10PESE (already topic project here),
and numerous ready .iso distributions on internet with shameless names like "BottomBullet PE".
Although 1* do quite more serious work than you do, They also have troubles or missing features other than mouse

While you are shamelessly and stubbornly posting, post gaming, Projects continue developing with constructive topics
  Error during building http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=1704.0
  win10pese x86 and desktop wallpaper http://theoven.org/index.php?topic=1705.0

Obviously, Naturally as explained constructively before,
There is no interest to your unknown Win10PESE replica of "BottomBullet PE",
which is a custom in-house recovery tool !
created for a unknown corporate entity (and a secret corporate entity ! )
to be approved to corporate internal information assurance division,
to be used ONLY for internal use....

Your goals serves to no constructive goal to anyone around here, around internet...
 and it was already replied:
Anyway, good luck with your replica.

It is a price we need to pay, opening a public forum helps developing projects to better, also opens gates to such things time to time.

Current topic will be used in future to guide public, so no need to reply same posts again and again.
If one can not understand what is written,
or like to use golden public forum rule of "ignore and post anyway, someone would reply anyway",
they will be banned from current development forum.

And this is LAST WARNING TO YOU BottomBullet :horse:

Stop posting non-constructive / flame posts with bended logics of post games,
There are other places on internet you can play post games, not here.

Anyway,
Maybe there are some serious people at Unknown Company's internal information assurance division,
who would post around if needed and approve all projects available at theoven.org ,
like the rest of the world and even approved by Microsoft LCA World Wide Anti-Piracy Team.

I hope above is enough this time. Read carefully, follow information and links, all constructively replied.
