It would be nice if anybody can change that!

Thank you 2aCD, your scripts are always very welcome!!
I like Macrium, it's free and seems to be very reliable. For everyday use I still prefer Acronis 2013, but for new GPT stuff etc, I guess we'll need Acronis 2014 or Macrium. After reading Mikka's experiences with 2014, I guess we'd better keep Macrium around as well (as a, ahum, "backup"...). I haven't really tested the GPT stuff, but of course that's the future.
Another thing I like about Macrium: It's pretty portable, you only need Reflect.exe, AESDll.dll and PrimoBurner.dll, which can be loaded from any location on a PE system. No image mounting in that case I guess, but still, I like this "feature"!
Thanks again, and looking forward to more of your scripts! (And of course your findings on Acronis, Aomei, Macrium, GPT, etc!)

FWIW, we shouldn't entirely rely on Acronis 2014 if we have
  • brand new hardware
  • Windows 8.1 installations
  • "legacy installations" of Windows 8.1

I assume that Acronis' build 6614 is the first one featuring support for Windows 8.1 (i.e. expect bugs).
No negative experience for Macrium Reflect Free so far. Just a question:
Does the pro variant perform better (image creation/restoration)?

New version 5.2.6462 20140124

Here's a Dutch announcement (but the Changelog's in English...)

http://tweakers.net/meuktracker/32092/macrium-reflect-526462.html

Still waiting for direct download links...
(Not sure if this warrants a new script version, you can always just put reflect.exe, primoburner.dll and aesdll.dll on a USB and run it as portable, at least that's how it worked until now).
EDIT: Yes, the three files are still all you need for a "quick" backup. Note that there was another update on the same date: version is now 5.2.6463:
"Release v5.2.6462 caused a problem with the rescue media creation wizard when building Linux based media. This has been resolved"

Hi Atari800xl,
I tried to modify the Macrium Reflect script except it doesn't seem to do anything.  It ran through with no error but it didn't stop the ask for keyboard and the registry keys didn't have any effect.
Maybe I can try your minimized script, the other ones worked great for me as portable apps.  I've attached my script so you can see if it would be able to do anything.  Thanks for all the help.

Too cool, thanks for the 5.3 update.
Thanks to Atari800xl for the path to 6.0.  I used the 5.3 Script to update to 6.0. I could see
in the notes that the free addition is suppose to work on restoring to different hardware.
I was not able to download that version yet. Download links for the software is
http://updates.macrium.com/Reflect/v6/getmsi.asp?edition=0&type=0&arch=0&redirect=Y   (Home Version of Macrium Reflect 32 bit)
http://updates.macrium.com/Reflect/v6/getmsi.asp?edition=0&type=0&arch=1&redirect=Y   (Home Version of Macrium Reflect 64 bit)
Under type=0,1,2,3,4      which is standard, pro, server and free but 4 only downloads the Version 5.3 not 6.0
Scripts are identical to 2aCD, but just updated to 6.0.  The link is for the FileContainer

Are you trying to install in the host computer? I was able to install in VM host computer as trial not putting
License key in as I don't have a valid key.  In PE form it doesn't care about license, but unable to restore
to different hardware.  It does have the capability to do file backup though.  Hopefully Atari800xl will get the
link for the free version, but it might not be available until later. Hopefully I understood your post.

New version 5.3.7290 (05-Mar-2015). Chris Plugin v5.3 has currently version 5.3.7220

Setup files for v5.3.7290 x86 and x64 here: http://1drv.ms/18On5OH

Btw: the explorer integration in Chris Plugin v5.3 is not working (right click on a  imagefile) -> "The parameter is incorrect"

Thanks for the new Macrium Reflect 6 plugin.

I made a test in my Win8.1SE x64.
It works, but directly after Macrium Reflect starts, my drive letters are changed:

After Win8.1SE boot:
ila_rendered

After Macrium Reflect has started:
ila_rendered

Really bad, my Win8.1SE medium is now E: instead of Y:

Yes, it is annoying. Seems to import the mounted devices key from your installed os. If you are multibooting, not sure how it decides which os to use for that.  It also resets screen res.

If you look in the pe registry after running macrium, you will see it has renamed HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices and added a new set.

Thanks Prz42 for Macrium Reflect 6 plugin
About the drive letters changed included Y: drive. I seem to remember it was already like that in v5.3.
MountPEmedia.exe can be relaunched as well as LetterSwap. It could be integrated into StartMacriumReflect.exe probably.

Can you do a quick test? Make your Pe-Stick Drive letter Y:
in your host computer. See if that corrects the problem.
