Hello Friends!

I took a challenge to run Gena on my old Vista machine. This task included making Gena automatically connect to wifi. I am very happy to announce that the Vintage Challenge is met.

I am writing this post so as to keep a record of the things. First of all a super big thanks to Lancelot. Without his guidence and enthu, I would've flunked. Here are details about my conversation with Lancelot : http://old.theoven.org/indexf726.html?topic=3079.0

As expected, Gena is booting via wimboot. Getting connected to wifi was really demanding. The native services were insufficient. That's where Holger's PE Network Manager was extremely useful. I had to tweak it though. Here are the steps :

0. Clean the caches. Set the source to Win XP SP3.

1. Tick 'Networking Support' in Gena --> Cmponents --> Core --> 1 System --> Network . This will automatically untick 'PENetwok Gena'. Now hit the big blue button.

2. After wimboot image and the wrapper iso is built, visit the same section and select 'PENetwok Gena'. This will automatically untick 'Networking Support'. Now add necessary resources such as wifi profile. Choose PENM version carefully. I found that the latest version with non-crashing GUI is 0.59.b3. The later versions do work, but either they are designed without GUI or the GUI crashes.

3. Now stay on the same panel and hit the little green button. This will build the necessary PENM files on top of the native network support files.

4. Now visit the wimboot panel at Gena --> Finals --> 2 Create Image , and press little green button so as to create the combined wimboot.

5. First I ran the iso in vertual machine and then ported on real machine. It worked in both places. The VNC Server also started automatically and offered incoming connection over designated ports.

My next step is installing 'Samsung Allshare' which is a filesharing software over a local network for Samsung products.

It took me weeks to bring a gena up to be able to make everything work in more "modern" computers.... But it is a valuable asset to troubleshoot low ram rigs... And this thumb drive is always there when I need it...

Do you know how to set ramdisk size? Like pecmd.ini in Win10XPE, there is no such file in Gena.

Thank you Malok! Sorry for the confusion. Actually I was looking to increase X: drive's size. This will allow me to install radeon graphics driver on the fly. The option you showed are for B: drive, aren't they? Let me try and see if that increases size of X: drive as well.

I tried to change this option. Unfortunately X: drive size does not go beyond 150 mb.

Do yu know how to flatboot the Gena? I tried the instructions Lancelot gave here : http://old.theoven.org/index3faa.html?t ... 0#msg37270

But they are not working. In the sense, the wimboot method is different from hdd boot. Has anyone tried flatbooting in the pase?

It's pretty easy to make a complete flat Gena.

I try to recall what to do.., but it's been a long time. loll

I remember you need to configure.

EnvironmentPE / Profile Location.
BootSectorPE / Normal
Also I use Minilogon with explorer

Thank you for your inputs. As of now, there are 3 sub options under Create Image. They are BootDI, Create ISO and WimBoot. All these options load Gena from a ramdisk. I am looking for changing the boot device from ramdisk to partition device.

I think I have a lead. I went through nt.s file. It lists ramdisk as booting device. I need to edit that file so as to point to a boot partition. LEt me see howit goes. I will try it out and report back.

Thanks for your suggestion. I could boot Gena from its hdd image. Currently I am using a VirtualBox's WinXP Virtual Machine. Tomorrow I will try on my old laptop.

I used an iso image generated by choosing Gena --> Finals --> 2 Create Image --> Create ISO. The image does not use any ramdisk. I was wrong above in #p571. I will write a separate topic for the sake of clarity.

Though Gena is flatbooting, still it is not a persistent image. I think that's due to FBWF. I am going to remove that tomorrow and give it a go. Let us see how it goes.
